Coach Javier "Bong" Ramos
Javier "Bong" Ramos was born and raised in the Philippines until his parents moved the family to Guam at 9, then to California at ten years of age. As a highly active child, he played sports every day. He remembers being inspired by the Street Fighter video game character Ryu, a worldwide hit in the early 90s.
Bong's Martial Arts journey started at 13 when he began training under the Grand Master Lay Wing Sung at Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Academy in Fremont, CA. While a student, he learned multiple forms, weapons (long staff and spear), and the demonstrations necessary to attain his Green Sash in 3 years.
Bong played High School Basketball and Football and wrestled for Mission San Jose in Fremont, CA. With much dedication and hard work, he was a finalist at every wrestling tournament.
While in college for Engineering at San Jose State University, Bong started weightlifting to supplement his athleticism. After becoming a Dad at 22, he did multiple long-distance marathons, including Tough Mudders and Spartan Races.
In 2016 Bong started training Muay Thai at KOA Fitness in Newark, CA, under 3x Lumpini Champion Muay Thai Fighter and Kru Naruepol Fairtex. Bong was part of the fight team that regularly competed in full-contact and semi-contact tournaments.
Bong's first contact with Crosley Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was in late 2019 when he relocated to Brentwood. He enrolled his then 13-year-old daughter Aubrey into our Teen's Jiu-Jitsu Program, who continues to train and has since moved into the Adult Program.
Shortly after, his wife and Addy, their younger daughter, joined the Muay Thai program. 13-year-old Addy is one of the most technical students in the Muay Thai program, and like her Dad, she is a very dedicated practitioner and competitor. You often find them practicing together during open mat sessions in the Muay Thai training area.
As a competitor, Bong has had 11 Muay Thai fights, seven point-style matches, three smokers, and one amateur. As a Muay Thai Coach, Bong plans to continue to compete and train alongside his students/teammates.
