Although our students are sure to improve their overall cardiovascular and fitness level, our curriculum focuses on the technical aspect of the devastating striking art of Muay Thai.

Our Muay Thai Kickboxing Classes Will Keep You On Your Toes From Start To Finish

Muay Thai is a form of martial art practiced in many parts of the world, including Thailand and Southeast Asian countries. It has enjoyed a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Muay Thai practiced today uses kicks, punches, elbows, and knees in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western boxing.

Muay Thai is referred to “The Art of Eight Limbs” as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes in such a manner to inflict extensive damage to one's body, to a point where simply standing up could be no longer an option.

Training Benefits

A large number of students embrace the sport for its fitness rather than its martial qualities. Muay Thai training delivers excellent health benefits in that it improves strength and endurance, promotes fat loss, relieves stress, and improves flexibility and coordination. It’s also a great confidence booster. You can burn anywhere from 500 - 800 calories in one session depending on how hard you want to push yourself. Due to its effectiveness in real combat, Muay Thai is practiced by most, if not all practicing Mixed Martial Artists today.

Program Breakdown

Classes are open for beginners starting at the age of 14, with or without previous experience. In our classes, you will find moms, dads, teens, Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, and local business owners, that are all looking to improve their overall lifestyle. Training segments are intense workouts that develop both physical, and mental toughness, along with a “Never Quit” attitude.

We have historically been known to have one of the most well-structured programs in the greater East San Francisco Bay Area. Our teaching methods provide great detail in every aspect of our curriculum with emphasis on stance, footwork, developing a strong base of support, offensive, and defensive striking techniques, holding pads and more.

Our instructors are trained to give every student the personal attention they need in order to steadily progress in skill and confidence. The classes are designed so that beginners can set their own individual pace, and progressively increase their own level of intensity.

We understand that not everyone who learns Muay Thai has the intention of one day stepping into the ring to compete. With that in mind, we run a fast-paced class, however, it's up to you how often you opt to step out and take a break.

12-Week Intro Program

The Intro Program is designed to gradually improve your skill, coordination, reflexes, focus and overall conditioning. You will learn jumping rope, develop an efficient fighting stance, basic punch and kick combinations, counters, and learn how to hold mitts and Thai pads for your teammates.

This initial stage of your training will slowly prepare you to begin drilling at full resistance pace in the following program. Upon completion of the 12-Week Intro Program, you will earn a patch. This patch is to be sewn onto your Muay Thai shorts and gives you eligibility to begin sparring. Though this is one of the most challenging (and rewarding) aspects of Muay Thai training, sparring is completely optional.

By now, your fitness levels should have improved considerably! You will be able to withstand more intense practices and learn more advanced techniques such as counter moves against punches, kicks, and elbow and knee strikes. This is also where you will begin to experience more multi-tasking drills in class. This includes partner drilling with attention to distance management, footwork, proper breathing, and technique, as well as reflex development. Your goal is to experience increased learning and fun!

Class Format

Classes are divided into 3-minute rounds of action-packed movements that keep your muscles moving non-stop. Plus, every movement is scalable to meet the needs of all abilities and experience levels.

Jump Ropes - The warm-up process is the most important part of your work out, as it'll help prevent injuries and strains. Warm up is required prior to each class and for this reason, we ask all students to arrive on time for the beginning of the class. Jump rope is an excellent warm up and aids in the development of full body strength and rhythm. It conditions the joints and muscles of your legs, and shoulders, and leads to improved coordination in both your upper and lower body.

Shadow Boxing - Combinations of strikes in front of the mirror that address form for offensive and defensive techniques as well as footwork. You'll practice boxing techniques like jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts, spinning back fists, combinations, slipping, sticking, moving, footwork, clinching and stand-up grappling. Shadow boxing also covers elbow and knee strikes and kicking techniques such as push kicks, knees, roundhouse kicks and more.

Heavy Bag Drills - Here, you can get a really good work out. Our "banana" bags weigh 100 lbs each, and while practicing the combos demonstrated by the Instructor, you will get to move the bag around with your strikes. You will learn and polish your distance management skills, footwork and improve your stamina.

Partner Drills - The partner drills are where you learn to hit a target held by another teammate. It can be hand mitts, Thai pads or the "suitcase" shields. These drills will teach you to hit the targets accurately and work on your stamina and reaction time. While holding them, you will learn how to see strikes coming.

Live Partner Drills - Here, you wear full protective equipment, and alternate with attacking and defending combinations with your teammate. This part of the training is a lot of fun! It will give you the chance to experience real combat scenarios, but with a cooperative training partner. It will allow you to improve upon your distance, footwork, multi-tasking skills, and give you more opportunity to see strikes coming at you.

Sparring -Although optional, this is where participants have the most fun with training. Here, you get to apply what you’ve learned with a training partner that is not only resisting but who is also simultaneously trying to apply his or her own learned techniques against you. This is done in a very controlled environment and divided into two to three-minute rounds. Here, you will work on your reflexes, multi-tasking skills, and dramatically improve your stamina. This is as real as it gets!

We finish the class with basic exercise drills such as push-ups, sit-ups or medicine ball throws. This will be the toughest work out that you can't get enough of!
